Support / FAQ
- What is the MyTemp™ temperature control and energy management system?
- The MyTemp system provides automated, independent
temperature control for every room in your home. The system is designed to work with existing
forced-air heating and cooling equipment. With it, you and your
family will be more comfortable in every room of your home,
regardless of the season and weather conditions. In addition, your home
will likely use less energy.
top
- How does the system work?
- Wireless Smart Controllers are placed in each room. They continuously measure and transmit the room’s
temperature. The master control suite receives this
information and uses sophisticated software to determine which
rooms need conditioning. By opening and closing dampers, individual rooms are
included or removed from the conditioning cycle. The master control suite then
activates the heating, cooling, or circulation equipment in your home to achieve
your settings. You can adjust the temperature for single rooms, groups of rooms,
or the entire home using the touch screen on the main display. Once set up, MyTemp automatically
maintains your temperature settings throughout the house.top
- How does room-by-room temperature control compare with traditional thermostats or other zoned systems?
- Since the typical central thermostat only controls the average
temperature in your home, some rooms can get too hot while other rooms can get
too cold. Zoned systems typically have two to four thermostats that control the average temperature of a
group of rooms. In contrast, the MyTemp system continually
monitors and adjusts the heating, cooling, and circulation in each
room. This ensures every household member (parent, child,
grandparent, and guest) will be comfortable in
any room at any time. Sunny rooms can be kept cool. Shadier
rooms can be kept warm. Even special purpose rooms such as
your home office, exercise room, and home theater will stay
comfortable all day long no matter the activity or equipment
used. Because all rooms receive only the amount of conditioning
needed, your home will use less energy for heating and cooling.top
- How can I reduce my heating and cooling energy consumption using the MyTemp system?
- MyTemp has two types of energy-saving features: passive and
active. Passive features operate on their own; you sit back, do
nothing, and receive their energy-saving benefits. Active energy-saving features require you to perform a simple task such as
pressing a button or creating a schedule. An independent study
reported that by using MyTemp’s active and passive features,
homeowners used up to 40% less energy for heating and cooling.
Passive Energy-Savings Features
- Room-by-room control: Ensures each room gets the right
amount of heating or cooling,
eliminating uncontrolled over-conditioning.
- Smart Circulation™: Before initiating a heating or cooling cycle, MyTemp will try to balance the temperature between warmer and
cooler rooms using only the furnace fan.
Active Energy-Savings Features
- AWAY mode: Instantly “sets back” the conditioning level
for your entire house with a simple push of a button.
- SAVER mode: Reduces conditioning in rooms that are unoccupied for long periods of time, such as guest rooms.
- Scheduling: Allows you to reduce conditioning when your
home - or specific rooms in your home - are unoccupied
during a regularly scheduled period of time.
- Energy history: Displays how much heating,
cooling, and circulation each room in your home receives
during a 24-hour period. You can use this information to
determine whether you have specific rooms that constantly initiate conditioning
cycles. Relaxing the temperature profile in these rooms provides you with the biggest bang for your buck.top
- This sounds complicated. Is it hard to use?
- Using the MyTemp system can be as simple or as sophisticated as
you want it to be. In the most basic mode, you can set the
temperature for your entire home as you do with a traditional
thermostat, but rest assured that every room will actually be
conditioned to that temperature. You can set temperature
settings for groups of rooms (all bedrooms, all bathrooms, etc.) or
set up schedules based on the time of day or the day of the week.
Heating or cooling to individual rooms can be reduced or
increased with the push of a button and later reactivated. As an advanced user, you can create custom programs for
special events such as vacations, entertaining, or prolonged visits
by extended family or other guests.top
- How much noise can I expect from the dampers?
- When a MyTemp damper is fully open or closed it makes no
noise. But when a damper is cycling between states, some noise
may be noticeable. The level will vary depending on the type of
ducting you have in your home. With most installations, the
dampers are virtually silent. In some cases, opening and closing
dampers may be accompanied by a soft “shhhh” or a muted
crinkle. If noise is a concern, the dampers can be placed deeper inside
the duct work to alleviate any issues.top
- How much does a MyTemp system cost?
- At a fraction of the price of radiant heat, the MyTemp system
from Home Comfort Zones will usually cost between three and
five dollars per square foot of your home. Please call your
local dealer to find
out about the financing or credit card payment options that are
available in your area. And don’t forget, the typical MyTemp
system owner reported a reduction in heating and cooling
energy use, some by up to 40%.top
- Is the MyTemp system reliable?
- Yes. Home Comfort Zones has extensively tested the
entire MyTemp system and would be happy to share the results
with you. More importantly, we can provide you with a list of
references so you can hear from homeowners who have already
purchased the MyTemp system. The MyTemp system is being
adopted by some of the largest home builders in the markets we
serve, including national builders such as Toll Brothers.top
- Is the MyTemp system backed with a warranty?
- The MyTemp system comes with a two-year parts-and-labor
warranty. top
- Can the MyTemp system be installed into an existing home? Or, a new home being built?
- The MyTemp system can be installed into almost any home new or
existing that uses forced-air equipment for heating and cooling.
In most homes, no cutting or drilling in walls, floors, or ceilings is
required. The installation process only takes a day or two. If
you’re building a new home, your construction schedules will
not be affected nor will the HVAC installation process be impacted.top
- What happens if I sell my home? Can I take the MyTemp system with me to my new home?
- The warranty and service are completely transferable to the new
homeowner. Having a MyTemp system in your home is also a
unique selling feature that will distinguish your home from
others on the market. Considering the cost of removal and
re-installation, we would strongly suggest leaving the original
system in your current home. Besides, everyone will remember
“the home with temperature control in every room.”top
- Does it harm the furnace if you block too many registers?
- Although the amount varies from house to house, there is always
a point in which restricted airflow will damage your furnace. How
many registers you can close before you reach that point is
difficult to determine. That’s why MyTemp has a temperature
sensor and a pressure sensor located inside the plenum near the
furnace. Using proprietary software, MyTemp interprets the data
collected from these sensors to ensure that there is always
enough airflow to keep your equipment operating within the
manufacturer’s recommended specifications. top
- What type of heating or cooling equipment do you recommend to work with the MyTemp system?
- MyTemp works with almost all existing forced-air equipment.
When replacing equipment, we make the following
recommendations, in order of importance:
- Use properly sized HVAC equipment.
- Use two-stage equipment with variable-speed motors.
- Use higher-efficiency equipment to improve your energy savings even more.
top
- I already have manually adjustable dampers in my home. How does this compare with the MyTemp system?
- With manually adjustable dampers, you can control the
percentage of airflow that goes to different sections of your
home. Adjusting these can improve some problems, but they
cannot react to changes in outside temperature and solar loads.
In addition, they do not adapt to the needs of family or inside
activities. Finally, as the name suggests, they require you to
adjust them manually. This usually requires you to crawl into
areas of your home that are dirty and hard to access, like your
crawl space or attic. In contrast, MyTemp’s control is automatic,
quick to react, and provided on a room-by-room basis. MyTemp
automatically compensates for changes in weather and your
family’s activities to ensure everyone is comfortable.
top
- Will the MyTemp system affect my allergies or impact the air quality in my home?
- The MyTemp system does not affect air quality or the
performance of air filters in your home. You can clean your ducts
prior to the installation of a MyTemp system to eliminate any
excessive accumulation of dust or dirt.top
